We want to build a year-round indoor pool for a variety of purposes: swim lessons, practice for our high school and club swim teams, swim meets, aquatic therapy, exercise classes, community lap and open swim, and pool parties.
Right now, we are open to all options and suggestions.
Putting a bubble over the current aquatic center would be more challenging than in other facilities because of its infrastructure. We would have to cover the 50m pool, the dive pool, and the outdoor filtration system. In addition, the locker rooms would need to be updated to make them winterized, and parking would be a significant problem when school is in session.
The BMCC pool has been filled in and is permanently closed.
The pool at the RAC is no longer operational and there are no plans to make the updates required.
This process will require developing partnerships with other community entities, and we are working on making those connections.
No. This is a separate project. The new sports complex is primarily focused on developing field space for outdoor sports.
Initial estimates for building a facility would be in the approximate range of $25-30 million.
We will be exploring many sources of funding including grants, donations from corporations and individuals, and local, regional and state funding options.
We have been discussing several ideas including user fees, developing a special recreation or aquatic district, creating partnerships with vested groups and possibly creating an endowment fund.
Currently, our board is full, but we would love for interested people to sign up on the website to receive updates/newsletters. We will use those contacts to reach out when we have community events or other opportunities to volunteer.
You can donate directly to our website or checks can be written to SPLASH Pendleton. We are in the process of finalizing our 501c3 status so donations will be tax deductible. Please include your mailing address if you would like a receipt.
Currently donations are NOT going toward funding the facility directly. At this time, they will be used for initial processes of developing a plan for creating and funding the facility. This includes items such as feasibility studies, research, and publicity materials.
